Meet Diving New Zealand's New Chair – Kelly Sutton

Hello to the NZ diving community

I am delighted to inform you that I have been appointed by the Board as Chair of Diving New Zealand, elected at the Board meeting of 31 March 2019.

By way of background, I am a self-employed mediator and business advisor. I mediate varied disputes, including; employment, education, elderly, military/civilian, neighbour and business.

I advise small to medium businesses, including start-up social enterprises, with respect to funding (grants, equity, sponsorship), business planning and strategy, legal structure, contracts, taxation, and impact models.  I am also a trustee/owner shareholder of a New Zealand waste company.

Prior to self-employment, I worked in NZ and the UK as a corporate, taxation and a private equity lawyer.  My volunteer work includes Chair of the Friends of the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research.

Prior to 2019, my daughter Gigi belonged to the Wellington Diving Club.  It was over this period I observed the incredible support and commitment from all the NZ diving community (including coaches, judges, club presidents, volunteers, parents, and friends) to work together to provide each diver the best opportunity to enjoy, develop and achieve in the sport.  The divers as a result encourage and support all team members to grow and achieve.  Now I believe it is my turn to give back and drive the Board to implement the DNA Plan to grow and progress the sport of diving in New Zealand.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lindsay Stone for all his time, experience and incredible effort as the outgoing DNZ Chair and note that Lindsay has been appointed Deputy Chair to ensure a smooth transition.

I will be at the National Championships event this Sunday April 7 and look forward to meeting you all. Please feel free to approach me and introduce yourself and chat.  For those who are not at the event, I invite and welcome any direct communication regarding New Zealand diving.
